Today’s modern society is conditioned to have everything done for them. Everyone is told to go to school, finish college, become a professional, fall in love, get married, have kids, retire, and eventually croak. Contemporary society will have you believe that this stepping stone lifestyle described defines a successful life, but has anyone ever told you that you can have more? That you can live a life of your own design? Do you believe that you could be able to live the life of your dreams? If you have not been exposed to this, it is time to crawl out the cave and hop into the driver’s seat and take off. Most people may or may not know that self-esteem plays the largest role in anything you do. A low-self esteem is what leads a person to develop a scarcity mindset. Having low-self esteem will lead you to believe that such a life described as above is defined as success.

What do you see in today’s society? You see people who are obese and overweight; people who would rather get by living than to live their life. You may see crime, teenage pregnancies, an increasing number in abortions, single-mothers, drug and alcohol abuse, war, terrorism, racism, prejudice, ignorance…the list continues on! Can you see why I have focused on the negatives? These are problems that we, as a society, face today. What exactly is the cause of all these problems?

The answer is simple: self-esteem. Jack Canfield’s “How to Build High Self-Esteem,” states this clearly:

Self-esteem is the bottom line of every problem anyone ever has. When you feel you have got high self-esteem and you realize that you can cope with anything, you participate in life that will produce miracles!

- Jack Canfield

What is self-esteem? How can a person attain high self-esteem and keep it!?

This is a major question that stumps most people. Personally, I have never had a clue as to what self-esteem was until my junior year of college. I was familiar with the word, but have never paid attention to its meaning or significance. My focus laid keen on accomplishing tasks and meeting other people’s expectations. Through previous experiences and attained knowledge regarding self-improvement, I learned that self-esteem is simply an individual’s own “feel good.” Self-esteem is a personal reflection of a person’s ability to adequately handle life. It is a reflection of their core Self. The Self is who we really are at our deepest core. Every place we go to, every interaction we have, the Self is always showing.

Since the Self is always coming through, people gain an impression of an individual by their self-perception and energy released. In order to be our best Self, we must maintain a high self-esteem. I highly recommend listening to “How to Build High Self-Esteem” by Jack Canfield.

According to Canfield, 2/3 Americans have low self-esteem and feel that they are not capable of handling life as it comes at them. Several problems today are caused by people with low self-esteem. Kids tend to have high self-esteem, but as they get older, their self-esteem gets lower and lower due to parenting, coaching, school, classmates, boy scout leaders, etc. Now many ask “who is responsible for my self-esteem?”

It is YOUR responsibility!

Self-esteem is important in our lives because if it is high we are fully confident in ourselves and we feel good, we are able to risk more in life. The reality is that you are not going to get anything done by sitting in your home watching TV all day. You may be willing to try something new, but you will not. 99% of people are exposed to other people enjoying their success, but very few take action to succeed in their life. In order to be successful:

YOU HAVE TO TAKE RISKS!

Take poker for example. You sit down at a poker table and take your chips out. You have around $500 in chips. The people around you have more or less the same amount. However, the table’s chip leader has around $3,000 in chips. Now tell me, who is more likely to afford more risks for every hand that gets played? The obvious answer is the chip leader. The more chips (self-esteem) you have, the more you are willing to take risks to ultimately build a larger stack of chips!

Tell me. How many chips do you have? How much are you willing to bet? To risk?

"Lack of loyalty is one of the major causes of failure in every walk of life."

“Lack of loyalty is one of the major causes of failure in every walk of life.”

- Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
